Why are your eyes closed, dear sister?

Why are your eyes closed, dear sister?

Winter has lifted its murdering boots,

and the birds

are singing in their freedom.

Why do you lie there, dear sister?

A life is not an outline on a canvas

so wake

and lift your brush once more.

Why are you still sleeping, dear sister?

A piece of earth, half-shaped

needs hands

to turn it to completion.

Dear sister

Your days, these days, today, is yours

To shape, paint, and sculpt to the colour of your dreams

Your days were never theirs to steal

So open your eyes now, dear sister.
